Lake Powell Window
The Lake Powell Window opens up and we’re there to nail stripers feeding on shallow banks and suspended over medium depth basins. Expert angler Tsunami and I put a hurtin’ on ’em tallying 88 fish in one day. It’s days like these I thank the Colbran mafia, who gave me the Lake Powell Master Class. It literally turned my long weekend trips that totalled up to 400.00 for 8 fish, into trips that payed for the fish! 4.00 a pound instead of 40.00! Lake Powell is in Utah in the Glen Canyon National Recreation area and is an incredible boating and bass fishing mecca. Follow my Colorado fishing reports in September to find out what’s really going on in Powell!

Kokanee Katching
The reports have gone from great to OK. Local angler Uncle Fred reported tearing up kokes wed and thurs and then experienced a slower bite yesterday and today. One angler was seen carrying a stringer of lakers up to 7lbs caught out of soap creek. We fished on Crazy Daves boat yesterday evening and today and experienced a slower bite- along with other anglers. A few big kokes came over the rails and many misses. Friends reported a collective of 14 kokes caught near Elk Creek EARLY! – Good work Cody! So thats’s the trend right now. We have mixed weather and a smaller window- so fish early! The hot report with pics below came from Captain Robby out of Morrow point- Big Kokes, and mixed bag trout. You should book a trip with this guy- he catches- good work bro. Google Morrow Point guided tours and ask for Robby. Anyway, we’ll be at it early so get out there

Koka Loco!
Kokanee! Fish for them now! They are shallow and reports have been coming from all over the lake. The browns are mixed in with them so if you’re only catching browns- change your color! 2 to 18 feet has been the norm with many 4 year olds being caught. Fish the narrows next to the power lines and creek mouths adjacent to the main channel. This pattern will hold for awhile so keep on ’em!

Kokanee Kalling
We had the Fenn family, and friends out for a weekend of fishing and we were rewared for our efforts. Saturday we flyfished East Elk creek and Blue Mesa. Almost all the rivers are very high and flooded with brown water from run-off and rain. We worked hard Saturday before the storm and were rewarded with one landed, but many many fish seen jumping right under our noses. Sunday we went to work on the kokes and found our fish willing and ready. The storms intensified the bite and a few sharpies on the boat were there for the hits. The fish are everywhere in the lake right now- everywhere. They seemed not to care what we fished with but more ‘how’ we fished it. We sailed out of Elk Creek, we stayed in the narrows but moved away from the boat traffic- and found our fish. Structure was key and freestyling was the name of the game. Fish the points, then drop in thier face! This will catch fish- many 3 and 4 year olds were caught- get out and get ’em!

Kokanee Kum Back
The kokanee are waking up! The bite went from slow to existent. Many reports of kokes being caught around the main channel on green and white. Adam from Lake Fork Resort came out for an afternoon trip and was rewarded with a few browns and some kokes. Uncle Joes tackle produced as well as tazmanian devils over deep water- no structure! The bite is slowly getting better so we hope to follow it into the holiday weekend. Come and help track ’em- Good reports have come from Cebolla but most of our reports are coming from Sapinero- look for the yellow boat and start fishing- 20 feet or shallower- be patient and you will catch!

You catch more Fish on the lake then from your Couch!
Fishing has been challenging. The lake has rose as much as 10 inches in a day and this has made fishing fishing. Kokes are scattered with the norm being 6 per day. The laker bite has mostly on bait resulting in hot and cold. The weather is dark, rainy and windy. This only means we have to fish harder and the windows will be shorter but can be rewarding. So this a great weekend to get out and get ’em and prove these reports wrong. See ya at the filet station!!

Laker Takers in full Swing!
We put the hammer down for some kokes and came up short. The pattern never materialized but we rewarded with a few fish and plenty of browns to keep us busy. Laker fishing is swinging right now with anglers taking fish all over the lake. Trollers have reported fish up to 28 pounds today and bait fisherman up 22lbs- yesterday was about the same. Local anglers from Montrose pictured below whooped up on lakers on classic main lake points and will be eating good tonight. The water temp was around 54, partly muddy and the fish are hungry. Most anglers reported the same koke action around Lake Fork today: 1,2 and 3 fish- that’s it- we’ll be looking for the school tomarrow and test our luck with the lakers- until then- good luck! and good luck to all that are in the tourney!

Kokanee Kokanee Kokanee Grouper!
The word is Kokanee! Anglers have been seen fileting Kokes and the chatter is in full swing. Kokes are all over the flats adjacent the river arms! Start at 15 feet of water and follow them down. Start with your favorite colors and don’t forget rainbow trout color! Some anglers are reporting catching really big fish, I saw a three year old at lake fork yesterday!. They are here- go get ’em and get out there early. If you’re fishing for grouper, you’re at the wrong body of water! Lastly, all our laker reports are being archived so be patient- and don’t tell anyone, but the locals are still rocking lakers!!!!

Kokanee Warm Up!
Kokanee bite has started for Bluemesafishing.com! We were working the usual laker spots trying to keep our poundage up with no avail. I dropped a lead core 3 colors back and SLAM! Kokanee on! The fish were moving fast and we managed six and lost 10 or more! The fish had been thrashed by lakers and we soon figured out why we couldn’t get the bite together. So we switched over to Kokanee gear and started at 10 over 34 fow with the usual stuff- mepps, tazmanians and sepps. The bite was fast and furious with many fish just ripping drag and then gone. We continued to work the banks down from the Dam- (Lake Fork) looking for Kokes dimpling the surface. All the fish were healthy and fighting until the end and friend Kevin and myself enjoyed a good session. 11am it shut off and the fish moved off- but we’re excited for the summer fishing season and this was a great beginning!

Lakers Taken!
We were back at Lake Fork today trying to put some big lakers in the boat. Mac island was a bust so we moved across the channel into the Soap Creek Arm. We put down our best presentations and were only rewarded with browns and dink lakers. Fellow guide and angler Ryan was seen netting a few hogs in the late morning and more than one angler hooked lakers up to 15lbs near West Elk. Great job guys- leave us a few next will ya. So all in all not a poundage day but the numbers did satisfy with a few fish that made it to the dinner plate. No report of kokes as of yet other than a few accidents but I’m confident we’ll put an ealry bite pattern together if it kills us. Great catching guys and keep on ’em before they become a distant memory!

Elk Creek Comes Up Short
We trecked some new territory with master angler Robby Richardson in search of an early Koke bite. We scoured the narrows along with a few other dedicated anglers and came up with small browns and lakers instead. The action was steady but the kokes didn’t show.- Better luck tomarrow- see you out there. We are going back to our stomping grounds at Lake Fork tomarrow and hope to increase the poundage and change up the species!
Thursday, May 7th 2009
Hey guys, talked to local Junction angler Mark. Said he caught 8 kokes, a mess of browns and 5 lakers up to 31 pounds- great job
Get out there and get ’em!
The weekend is upon us. I hope everyone is gearing up to give their best game on Blue this weekend. We’re down here now doing some boat repairs and getting ready to do a search and seizure mission on the kokes. We are also working on a downrigger camera which will generate some more videos and reveal the nature of some of the fish we love to catch. For those who missed it last night Jared Johnson was at Sportsmans and gave a hell of a talk. He had all of us saying DUHHHH! why didn’t I think of that. Bob, aka Bobco gave an awesome talk on jigging kokes at Blue Mesa. I consider koke jigging one of Colorado’s premier fishing opportunities and if you haven’t done it or haven’t had success you’re missing out! Bobco spelled it all out, naming hotspots and showing gear and lure selection- incredible! What a night. So we’re sailing tomarrow and will beat it all weekend! Fish on my friends and we’ll be updating every evening! Check out this Youtube and see what kokes are really doing!

Hey Guys
Casey Gdowski, the Captain and owner of Bluemesafishing.com charters- no reports today. Some of Blue’s best are out there giving it all they got today and I haven’t heard anything yet. We’re working towards a live video report on Youtube so bear with us during the techincal junk.
I will have the window up in the reports soon. Other news is that Jared Johnson from Rocky Mountain Tackle will be speaking at Sportsmans warehouse next wednesday the 6th at 6:30pm. This guy has it together. My first trip to the gorge, he tells me what to order, where to go, and I caught 3-5lb kokes on the first drop. His tackle is insane, and it works on Blue Mesa. Check it out on Rockymountaintackle.com. In other news, our second passion here at Bluemesafishing.com is East coast stripers. The run has started with all the 10-15lbers and bluefish you can catch. In a few more weeks the 20-60lb cows will start the feedbag and you can bet we’ll be there. Ask about our Ocean kayak charters- if you can handle it! Wayne at wayneswords.com is reporting sick action at Lake Powell. Its wide open on Stripes, walleye, all bass, cats and paper mouths….. so start fishing!!!– keep fishing, and we’ll be at it hard again after this front so look for Ol Yeller and say hey!

The Real Deal
It’s been a great spring at Blue mesa lake in Colorado doing guided salmon fishing trips and trophy lake trout trips. We operate in the curecanti national park which is home to Elk Creek Marina and Lake Fork Marina! Not only is this lake an incredible fishery but the marinas provide some life in an otherwise vacant fishing mecca. You can buy rods, reels, tackle, slips, shop at the store, eat at the restaurant and much more. Call me for your guided fishing trips and get ready to catch a trophy!

June Overview
June was a tough month for Kokanee in large reservoirs. The water in our Western region has risen and continue to, pushing lake levels to their maximum capacities. This has made fishing tough, but rewarding. After talking to expert Blue Mesa guide Robby Richardson and Kokanee pro Jared Johnson, innovator of Rocky Mountain Tackle sold at Rockymountaintackle.com, we all had the same experience in June. People are catching fewer fish, bigger fish and are working harder for them. The water is high, the water column is not stratified, there is tons of debris, and you can bet the water is rich with food. The fish are there! Flaming Gorge and Blue Mesa have fish everywhere, so don’t for a minute think they aren’t paved underneath of you. We just have to work harder and change it up. For Blue, the water as of yesterday spiked to 68 degrees which should concentrate the kokanee at whatever depth they choose, instead of being everywhere. Our last 3 trips we have caught nice 4 years olds from 0 feet to 60 feet everyday! The bite has been the same from Lake Fork to Lake city bridge. So I’m hoping for this hot weather to remain, and I believe, it will bust wide open in short bursts sooner than later. This weekend should be a great start. The fish should move deeper and the boat traffic won’t bother them as much. So, for July, plan to fish deeper, longer, and change your colors often. Don’t leave fish to find fish either. If you catch one, stay at it, varying speeds and angle of approach. The fish will abide.
Second order of business; as owner and captain of Blue Mesa Fishing, I don’t claim to be the best at kokanee fishing or an authority- some days I get my butt kicked by other guys!. I do spend a ton of time fishing a four spread at varying depths with all different baits all the time and talk about it. I can tell you what they’re biting on, where and when. If you follow my reports and see the yellow boat and can get in to fish, or just keep doing what you’re doing- persistence does pay off. But I am now offering a subscription to acutal baits, locations and depths. For the rest of the year, this will be 15.00 per email address this year for kokanee fishing. Here is a sample of what you would get: Rocky Mountain tackle 4.25″ Nickel Glow Crush dodger with Rocky Mountain Tackle UV Pearlescent squid, trolled at 15 FOW in front of Lake Fork bridge, 4:30am to 6:30 am, then go to pink colors.
I will send an email like this out each day of fishing to each email address that subscribes everyday I fish, which is usually 4 days a week or better. The fee will be 15.00 per email address, and if you’re coming up for a short weekend, call me with your name and email address and I will relay the info via text. NOW, for you experienced anglers, pay no attention to this offer. You have to realize some poeple get to fish Blue 3 times a year, and they don’t have the time to experiment for 2 weeks before they nail it. This is for guys who are learning, or are coming up for the week or weekend to catch. Now most of my reports will be from Lake Fork/ Sapinero basin- the fish are everywhere! But I’m catching over there, so that’s the long story. If you’re interested in this subscription, please email me, and if you’re not, I appreciate you bearing with me- I will still spill the beans to anyone who asks at the fillet station and at the filet station only!- Or follow bobco’s reports on coloradofisherman.com. This guy is a real pro and has done the hard time, and is always willing to share some info on kokes for free. As for my price, this reflects my daily fuel prices of 10.00 to 15.00 a day, lost tackle which is 5.00 to 20.00 a day, insurance, boat maintenance, and misc supplies for 8 -12 hours of fishing a day. Unfortunately with Kokanee, there are no guarantees, but this will get you off and RUNNING fast! Thanks for reading and enjoy the reports! June will be archived on Friday at the bottom of the page!

Mo’ Kokanee
We were out today with the Ridenour party with Ted and Hunter. The fish were hot and cold as they have been for the last two days. They commit suicide in the morning and run during the day. We hunted ’em down though with a patient crew and pulled some pounds for our efforts- 7 landed, 3 lost at the boat, 3 lost at the strike. Lakers and browns filled the afternoon and the largest 4 year old of the bunch finished the trip off at 3pm. Hunter learned that kokanee are hard to find, but fun to catch- great lip rippin’ today bud! And when times got busy, Ted was there to grab a double header- good work guys! Fish were high in the moring, 25fow into late morning. Greens in the am, pinks in the pm but don’t bet on this pattern. The water spiked to 68.7 today so there will be a big turnover of the bite- put your brain to work and get ready for a new pattern and hopefully a bite will busts wide open!

Work your butt off!
We had the Parino party out today for a trip and put a nice catch together. Kokanee bit on the first drop and played hide and go seek for the rest of the day. We put in the hard time and caught 5 kokes, a bunch of lakers and some ‘bows. The bite has cooled off from the last few days so plan on working until the fish decide when to put on the feedbag again. Thanks Perry and the gang, a pleasure fishing with you.

3 and 4, 3’s and 4’s
A good showing around Lake Fork this morning rewarded many anglers with kokes for the effort. The schools were on the surface at first light and many guys hooked up right away. The bite died early and we can only figure it’s because of the great bite yesterday….. I finally got to get out by myself to get some fish to smoke and did OK- Lost 5, landed four. Almost everyone had 3 or 4 fish, and lost as many. It’s still not the action we saw last year but the best is yet to come! The same stuff stil produced fish and the only thing that seemed to kill the bite was boats. The fish are scattered, look for a sign and try and fish away from the traffic, you will catch more fish.

Great Weather Great Bite!
3 and 4 years old were ready to eat today and we were there for the catching. Kokanee were cooperating at 15 feet all morning into the afternoon with the Ratliff party with plenty of kokes and many lost. Alot of boats were seen hooking up and it seemed likes everyone was in a good mood. One angler yelled a report of all day catching near Lake Fork. We did most of our damage near lake fork bridge and the evening session proved hot with fish down at 20fow. It seems to be getting hot so get out here and get to work. The usual suspects produced big fish which were Arnie’s and RMT squids. It was good and only looks like it’s going to get better!
Thursday June 25th 2009
Slow-kanee
The word is slower today as Cebolla, the Iron works and Iola gave up only a few kokes but the browns and lakers were willing to bite when the baits were presented to them. This weather may bring a slow down to the bite and make it shorter and earlier. We’ll see this weekend and I’ll post everything I see, catch and hear.
Wednesday June 24th 2009
Hot Weather- Hot Fishing!
The bite is on. Kokanee were caught from Lake Fork to Cebolla with many catches over 20 fish and one skilled angler who filled a trash bag full. This warm weather is what we needed and the fish are cooperating. Hot weather means hot fishing. This is coming into some of the best bites on Blue Mesa and it should only get better into July 4th. Go catching!
Saturday and Sunday, June 21 & 22 2009
Decent Bite
Went out for an evening session at the Lake Fork bridge and managed a koke a few browns and lakers. The water is climbing to full pool and parts of the Middle Bridge are too low to boat under. Today we shot over to Cebolla basin near the iron works and had our fair share of kokes. Everyone had into a few and fish remained scattered, while hovering at about 15 feet down. Yellow and green brought a few and RMT squids caught the biggest fish. Not a stellar day for us and after 11:30 it got real tough. We’ll head out again at dusk and give ’em hell. The weather is beautiful and let’s hope we can get some really warm days to push these kokes into a pattern. Other than that, reports were slow at Macntyre with many fish on the graph but few biting. Attendance wasn’t high this morning but steady- keep up the good work and keep fishing!

TGIF
We’ll be Fishing all weekend and into the week so look for some pics and reports. This page will be a little slow until I archive the past reports which I will work on this weekend- so hang in there. I have already heard of fish being caught wide open in Lake Fork basin, down the middle and at all depths- so come get yours. Also, the webcam is having problems and we’re working on that as well, it will show you the last pic of each day until it resumes. Until then – FISH!!!!!!!!!
Thursday 18th 2009
Get to work, catch Fish!
Reports are coming and the word is slow, but poundage is coming over the rails. The bite is tough but dedicated anglers are putting in their time and getting rewards. The fish are still everywhere, 1 color to 40 feet down. This is good because you almost can’t do the wrong thing. Set your gear 5 feet apart in the column and start trolling an arsenal. Pay attention to lighting, speed and lure selection. If its dark out, fish slower and brighter, if its sunny, faster and pink. Start with this. Guys have have been pullin at Lake Fork Bridge. The narrows are still giving it up and Iola is supplying browns in massive numbers. Cebolla, the Iron works and middle bride have been holding fish, but the pattern is hot and cold. Catch fish in one spot, if it slows, move! Improvise your game and change it up- the fish will respond.
Saturday – Monday 13th – 15th 2009
Better never than late!
Sorry about the late reports fisher poeple. The server has been down and I’ve been crying about it all weekend. So with saying that- Fishing has been good. The iron works is holding fish from 7 to 30 feet using the standard arsenal of funny colored baits. Green in the morning, pink after first light always works- and shake up the presentation- don’t be married to one speed! The narrows have given up some fish from the corner cliff at elk creek to the power lines and around the mouth. The water peaked at 59 and the fish were in all parts of the column, moving deeper as the day progressed. The Gunnison River has been giving up great fish on cadis in the evening and mid day- The fishing is starting to get hot so get fishing!
Friday June 12th 2009
Bring on the fish
Just got a few reports from the lake and koke bite is getting hotter. The early bite is still good and fish are also being caught from 20-30ft as the days progress. DOn’t worry about the weather, the fish still need to eat! West Elk point is finding fish deeper to Middle Bridge, and the narrows and just outside of the narrows towards Iola are producing. Get your raingear and put some fish in the boat. We’re getting on a plane tonight and starting charters again tomarrow so get ou and get ’em!
June 7th through June 12th 2009
No Blue Mesa Report this Week!
We got the fish call from Captain Chris of the Caliente Carlito, our good friend, and he yelled Fish!- GO EAST! We hopped a plane and headed to NJ for the famed striper run and we nailed ’em! We headed out in the rain and were greeted with bass crashing bunker schools right off the beach. The pictures say it all. We’ll be back this weekend on Blue and I’ll update the reports when I get a report from some of the captains. YEESSS!!!!!!! Chris dialed us in and we bailed over 20 bass up to 40lbs. We stopped counting and just pulled as many cows per minute as we could! If you want a trip call him at 609 558 4721!
Sunday June 7th 2009
Full Moon, Good Bite, Windy
The reports have been coming in and Iola basin has pulling some pounds. Fish near the channel and throw everything that says kokanee. A few guides have reported a great kokanee bite and the browns are in with them thick. Look for the boats, come in slow and get to work- Good Luck
Saturday June 6th 2009
Full Moon
Sorry for the lack of reports, I’ve been doing some non-fishing-related activities, but the bite has been Ok, with Cebolla and the narrows still bringing up some fish. The full moon has been keeping the numbers down. I’ll have more reports tonight- some of Blue’s best are out there!

Kokes in the Kooler
Here’s an email I just recieved from the two of the fishiest brothers I know: Thanks for helping my bro and I out the other night at Adam’s house at Lake Fork Resort. The tips you gave us saved our trip because we were struggling to catch fish cause we were fishing too deep, and we wanted kokes not trout. We ended up leaving with 2 coolers full of salmon thanks to your advise. What really helped also was getting out of Sapinero and fishing at Cebolla Basin and the Narrows. We KILLED the kokes there, getting 15 fish on Tuesday, and 11 fish on Wednesday, and 11 fish today. Anyway thanks again Casey for your help, we’re hoping to make it up again in August to try jigging for the kokes, we’ve never done that before which looks like an insanely awesome experience. Hope to fish with you at some point this year, Thanks,Pat and Ed Connors. ****Thank you guys for the props! All these guys needed was a little info and committment to thier species. You can’t fish all over the place with 10 different lures for 4 different fish- commit, and you will succeed- I will supply as much as I can for fellow fisherman… Tip #1 GO FISHING!
Monday June 1st 2009
Keep Katching!
The koke bite has been early in Lake Fork but steady reports have been coming in from Iola basin. The fish are feeding higher in the column and the weather isn’t killing the bite. One angler reported over 10 landed and plenty missed- the browns are in there thick too. If you find yourself catching too many browns, try a different color and a little higher! Good luck and keep fishing!
July 31st 2009
Fish On
We had a heck of a party party out today and the fish cooperated! Rich, Nick, Jodi and Frank worked hard and the rewards were sweet! There were fish everywhere with only a few biting but we got ’em and bagged ’em! Numbers were down but pounds were up and some doggs were hauled. The fillet station was busy and many anglers were happy- do you want to be happy? GO FISHING!!!!!!
July 30th 2009
Lip Rippin’
We had the Fahey party out today and got into ’em. Plenty of kokes in the boat and plenty lost. The bite is still great and we expect this pattern to keep on going! There were plenty of fish at the fillet station today as well!
July 27th 2009
Summer Biting, some are not!
The bite has been hot and cold with fish on hot one day and cold the next. If you see twenty boats, hit and move on before 8am, find an unmolested school- just keep looking for happy ones.
July 24th 2009
Picky Pick
The Lopez family came out today and worked through the rain to nail some kokes. The bite slowed a little for us with four in the boat, a few missed and few more hits. High hook at the cleaning station was 8 and almost everyone touched fish. The early bite is on in Lake Fork and getting tough after 9. The Iola bite seems to be a bit longer with fish biting until dark- friends Rich, Jodi and I went out for a sunset cruise and nailed 3 in about an hour- the fish are here, just keep looking for happy ones.
Friday July 23rd 2009
Kokanee Krush!
We had two parties out today and everybody caught fish. Kokes were stacked on the graph and willing to bite. We started in Lake Fork and finished in Iola with 4 year olds coming over the rails all day! The bite is on and we’re here to get a piece- come get yours, the fish will abide! Good work Crystal on landing your first kokes, and the Fenns pulled their weight in fish all morning! FISH ON- GET TO THE BLUE NOW!
Thursday June 25th 2009
Fast and Early
The bite is on all over the lake for the right fisherman with the right baits. We were hitting good kokes along with the fleet following around the school. Get here now!
Thursday July 23 th 2009
Fast and Early
The word had been crazy at Lake Fork with limits being bailed for the last two days. We showed up today to scout the grounds and we were into fish right away. The graph was filled for most of the morning and ended around 10:30- and then had us chasin them. It wasn’t like it the last two days but Adam from Lake Fork Resort and I, Robby and a few sharpies nailed some nice 4 year olds and called it quits- get out here now!
Weekend wrap up July 17-20th 2009
Found ‘Em, Nailed ’em
We had a few parties out to fish Blue Mesa Reservoir this weekend and the word was slow! Three days searching and only a few fish per session to show for it. Fares were eager to catch with fish all over the screen but we just couldn’t get them to bite- so on Sunday, the lady and I along with a few sharpies went out for a morning session for fun and it busted wide open! Boats were hooking up everywhere and we into fish one after the other for hours. Limits were filled and limits lost as fish hammered spinners in Iola and ripped drag until the end- no babying the fight! It was great and Blue Mesa Fishing expects this trend to last into Jigging season- hot and heavy! Local sharpies have been pullin fish right in Sapinero basin- 14 to 25 fish a day with others doing 10 in the boat and many lost! Many of these veteran fisherman have the right color which is a known killer for decades and are shutting out these new baits- so don’t pass up the old adages! Anyway, the fishing is on for our boat- if you want to catch trophy salmon- book now because the bite is on and spaces are filling up! FISH ON- GET TO THE BLUE NOW! Here’s a few of the fish we bailed on Sunday- it was getting too hot to fillet the rest of ’em in sun!!
Wed July 15th 2009
Happy Fish Working Fisherman
We talked to a bunch of hardcores and sharpies around Lake Fork yesterday and the word was the same- a few fish, but real nice ones. The bite was early- the Chapman party and I touched 4, landed one and stared at 100’s of fish on the graph. The fleet collectively left the lake at 10:30am. The evening bite seems to be alittle better so we’ll keep giving them hell until we limit out! There’s alot of work being done out there for fish- it ain’t easy, but each fish is a reward right now- so keep at it!

One guy in Lake Fork, one guy at Elk Creek- pickin! Have heard some good reports of limits taken yesterday and a few guys with 5 and 6- Good work- If you find a school- keep working! Tons of fish out there- the ones we were working just looked and laughed!
Saturday July 11th 2009
Fast and Early
We had the The Polson party out today and found ’em real early and then nothing! This seems to be the trend right now. We got into all four year olds this moring losing 7 fish and landing about as many. They were hot then cold and then had us chasin them for hours. The good news is we’re going to keep at ’em until we find the wide open bite- Green arnie’s, dark bantam syclops, and RMT squids shared the action with no wild card baits pulling!- Pics will be up shortly
Friday July 10th 2009
Lookin Fishy
We did a quick a troll to the cove tonight at Lake Fork and saw tons of fish. We hooked up right away with two really nice kokes and headed for the barn. The weather is perfect and there are literally fish covering up the screen. Come to Sap and start fishing!
Thursday July 9th 2009
How ’bout some Mo’kanee
The word is still slow around the lake with fish being available to catch, but in small windows. So keep pushing your best stuff, start moving deeper, and start in the dark- give yourself time to put a pattern together.

Slow to No-Kanee
The bite screached to a hault for Blue Mesa Fishing as Monday and Tuesday’s trips picked into low the lowest numbers in awhile. The full moon may have had an effect as well as the dropping water in the lake. We had the Boogh and Randal parties out today and landed a few with much effort and lost a bunch along with short-strikers all morning. One boat reported twenty fish caught but I believe these sharpies were fishing under the moon light- good work guys. As for the rest of us at Lake Fork many anglers report 0-3 kokes with everyone scratching their heads. We’re going to take a break and let the moon wane a bit and we’ll be back at it on Friday. Good luck and we’ll post some pics from today soon!
Sunday July 5th 2009
More of the Same
We traveled to Iola today to chase more and bigger fish and ended with more of the same. I fished with Crazy Dave on his new boat and we landed 6 lost 3 and called it a day early. The cleaning station revealed the same with 1 and 2 fish and couple more here and there. The good news is fish are being caught every day. We’ll head out tonight and update tomarrow.
Saturday July 4th 2009
Nice Fish
Just back from Lake Fork Basin the word is the same- a decent pic. The quality of fish being caught are all 4 year olds, but we’re still waiting on the numbers to show up. We had the Kirkman men out today and worked hard for some beautiful fish. We landed 7 and lost as many and threw a few browns and a laker back. Everyone seemed to have a few fish in the cooler, some more than others. Tomarrow we will move to new location and seek out numbers- keep ya posted.
Friday July 3th 2009
Fish – On
The word is fish on! Lots of good fish were caught today on the Lake Fork Arm. Numbers were lower than usual but pounds are up! Everyone are catching a few fish so that means when you catch a fish- do more of the same thing! So fish are here- ***********pink e-chips are catching************
Thursday July 2th 2009
Ready for Battle
Just got a report from the lake- more of same. So the good news is you WILL catch salmon if try really hard! Local angler landed 4 lost 6.- That’s a limit! So- this is what you do- commit to kokanee- I don’t want see any rapalas, powerbait or deep downrigging for lakers- KOKE baits only. Figure on 8 hours of hard trolling- new spots, varying speeds, and angle approaches- look for clean water, structure near the river channel and troll multiple depths. The only way to catch is to fish!! If you want to book a trip- do it now! We are booking up fast everyday- thank you customers! We have been leaving anglers with more fish than they can handle so if you want to take only 1 trip- you will learn what you need to know to catch for the rest of the season- again, thank you! Get ready to fish and every fish will be earned- remember, these are kokanee salmon, trophy game fish, just because you don’t bail ’em, don’t mean they ain’t laughing at your presentation!!!!!!! June has been archived so click below to check out your trip and pics!

Jersey’s Finest
We had Bruce, James, Charles and Howard out today to do, what we do best. We immediately hit it off having so much in common…. born and raised in New Jersey! So we went to work and the kokes made us sweat. We landed 18 fish and could not break the 3:1 hook up to land ratio, but the fish were there and we will keep trying! Great work guys!

Sunday 16th 2009
Working Hard!
The Schmidt men, and muscle man Chuck came to day to try for a limit of kokes. We worked over stacked schools all day and only had one to show for it. These guys hung in there dropping on everything that we could and the kokes wouldn’t give ’em a break. The fish were stacked and played cat and mouse and snubbed well presented baits like it was their nature!!! These guys kept it together and pounded until the end- great effort, true fisherman! The sharks were feeding heavy today making it hard to get on small schools- hey guys, if you’re fishing with your eyes, turn off your fish finder! Thanks and good luck, we’ll keep on ’em full throttle!
Saturday 15th 2009
Whammy!
We had Joyce, Michael and Jake on the boat today and patience won the battle. We searched for 6 hours- 6 hours! We searched, the crew waited, and waited and waited…….. and NAILED ‘EM! The bite was tough and the numbers were thin, but the kokes gave it up! Great work crew- it was a pleasure to fish with true pros!
Friday 14th 2009
Spank-ville
The Risenger party came out and smacked kokes in the mouth! Tough crew, that wouldn’t stop the pressure, and the fish did abide!!! 23 fair hooked, countless missed, dropped, and released- yeah!!!!

Yank-ville
The bite was on- everyone was catching!!!!!!!! Get out here!
Wed 12th 2009
Whooping Up!
The Harmon family came out today to challenge kokes to a battle and I would say it was a draw. 30 plus fish missed and dropped but 16 to show for a heck of an effort. The bite was red hot but short striking was the name of the game- you must answer the call- or lose the fish! Great work guys!!!
Monday 10th 2009
Mo-kanee
The Paylan family came out for a shot at trophy kokes and touched a bunch, boxed a few, and stared at 1000’s. Tough bite today with perfect conditons- it’s just a fish thing!
Sunday 9th 2009
First Frost!! Tough Fish, Tougher Fisherman
The Haynes family came out today and put a catch together regardless of the ice this morning. The fish didn’t give it up for long but they did commit suicide on some baits and many just snubbed us. We’ll keep trying though- good work guys!

Monday 3rd 2009
Slab Town
The bite was painfully slow this morning with fish looking and not biting…. alot. The Sigrist couple came out and showed that we don’t take no for an answer. 12 landed, 4 lost and a bunch of short strikes- Good Day!
Sunday 2nd 2009
Fast and Furious
The bite was hot for a good 2 hours today as salmon hammered baits East of Elk Creek marina. The Crow party came out for a shot at the title and came in pretty close with some dog salmon and many lost!!! We’ll keep at it- fellow angler Rich was in the fleet as well and put the hammer down- NICE FISH!
Saturday 1st 2009
Picky fish
The bite was hot and cold with 6 being the high hook today and many 1s and 2s at the dock. The bite window was short but the fish were stacked- they’ve seen a ton of baits, but the Baud family bagged a few and we gave ’em he@# !

Paul and Eric Snyder and Norma came out Sunday for a hard pick on Kokes and had some fish to show for, but many never made it to the boat- that’s why it’s koke fishing! They keep us working hard- Great work crew!
Fri 8th 2009

2009
Powell- ON!
We’ve been doing the fall runs to Lake Powell and the fishing has been great. Not too many pics on this trip because we were just fishing too hard- but we nailed the stripers, patterned the crappie and whooped up on bass. This lake is too good to pass up in the fall- If you haven’t been, get here now!
Wed 13th 2009

The browns have continued to spawn and slam baits presented in their zone. We are slaying nice fish and releasing all to swim again and make more fish. The numbers are up and this doesn’t get old- gotta love the Colorado River!!
Wed 1st 2009
Brown Town!
Sorry for the no up-date guys! We’ve been cleaning kokanee blood off of everything we own for weeks! Anyway, Lake Powell is heating up and this cold front should bring it together. The brown fishing on the Colorado has been insane! 20+ fish a day up to 22 inches. We release all these spawners but fight ’em until the end. The Pike fishing has been good and the big boys are really biting. (These are last years’ pics, but don’t worry , we’ll have new one up soon!) Stay posted, we’ll continue the fishing insanity with reports soon!!!
Kokanee Season is Over!!!!!
It’s been great folks! Tons of fish tons of laughs, highs and lows and everyone had a great time. Great job and thanks to all who made this an incredible season!! Get ready for Lake Powell- It’s still summer there and the fishing is exploding!!!!!!!!!!

May 26th 2010
I Stink!
Bad news and bad news. The fishing has been stinking and I can’t buy internet if I had a million dollars at Lake Fork. After the blow, the run off water muddied up the Lake and high pressure and full moon are possible suspects. I have afew pics and will update soon- dont’ get excited. Reports will resume soon!!
May 21-22nd 2010
Blown Me Down!
Good and news and bad news again. We are catching kokes! The bad news is they spread out from their little hangout across the Lake Fork Marina. Turnip put a 9 fish cath together but it was slow with a fish an hour- red arnies and such. Today- windy, so we switched to casting for browns and they never dissapoint. 20+ fish at Lake Fork bridge biggest being 2.75lbs- these fish will bring the action when all esle fails. Tomorrow’s a blow too so look for an average report and expect the beginning of the week to look up. Also- BMF’s own webcam will be back and running this week so the real deal weather with a decent picture will be available. Gear up and get ready for the big bite!
May 20th 2010
Cappy’s Back!
Good and news and bad news. Bad: Non fishing related activities going on tomorrow. Good: Turnip will be doing the search for kokes tomorrow- and he’s no tight lip!
May 20th 2010
Fishin’ Again!
Well, the fishing has been good and multiple species are are cooperating. We’ve hammered a ‘few’ hundreds pounds of lakers so far this season and are still working hard. Turnip, our new kokanee guru on the team is crushing kokes at Lake Fork and dinner has been great at this guy’s place. He will soon be online and aswering all your koke-quirk questions. The browns are banging on jigs on the shorelines and keeping the late moring bite hot. The water temps are creeping up so get ready for the explosion of fish. We will be updating daily so stay tuned, or stop reading and go catching- the Cap.
June 30th 2010
20lb Kokanee
Decent night bite with pics of a 6′ 5″ giant catching 4 year kokes(no 20lbers). It’s still happening- the pattern is changing
June 30th 2010
Changing!!
Had Mike, Frank and their two lovely wives out today for a kokanee chase. We chased and picked for a half day and worked hard. 14 in the boat- some trout mixed in and 7 lost- not bad but the pattern is changing. I will let ya know when it stabilizes for me. A decent pic from others at the fillet station today but no annihilation on this side of the lake. The one thing I can tell you is keep fishing 11am to 2pm- you will catch. I haven’t heardanything from Cebolla or Iola but I haven’t asked. There are still good fish here so come on over and play chess.
June 29th 2010
Franken-fish Out!
Solo mission tonight infront of the marina and nailed 6 more kokes- all released- this pattern can’t last much longer so here it is: Red spinners and yellow spinners- then do the variation on glow yellow and glow red for low light situations- white corn and troll slow- you will catch until it busts- thanks for checking in- we have a trip tomorrow so say a prayer to the fish gods for these folks!!
Tues 29th 2010
Steady!!
Went out with Jon and Luke of Houston Texas and had ’em all day. A steady pick landed 28 fish- 20 kokes, 8 trout- and lost 12- all fish were released but 3 that were hooked deep! A few big 4’s and 3’s and good mix of 2’s. Great day and great crew- the fish are still here!
June 27th 2010
Good Pick!
Did a morning session with the Bomb Squad and associated clowns and nailed 20+ kokes. It’s still on and good and that’s all there is to say. Monday I must do non-fishing related activites so look for reports on Tuesday- let’s hope the pattern keeps up!
June 26th 2010

June 23th 2010
Smack Down!
We’re out this moring scouting for this weeks’ and weeknds’ trip and it wasn’t hard to catch- boated 12 lost 5 in a quick morning session and everyone was catching. Turnip killed ’em in Lake Fork and associated clowns rocked ’em in Iola- it’s on everywhere- now’s the time and if you’re reading this you’re not fishing- so quit your job- or take a leave and git down here- mornings and evening as kickin’ butt. I will have pics and video up tomight- going back out!!!!
June 20th 2010
Still Rockin!
Two days off. We’re off to maintain the boat and do some non-fishing related activities. But- you can guess the fishing will continue to be red hot as the water warms- and prolly until the full moon. So start planning your trip to get ’em while it’s really hot. All of our trips have been putting kokes in the boat with a great mixed bag as well. Plenty of 2 year olds out there so the future of kokes looks great. We’ll see ya again on Wednesday for non-stop fishing and reports with pics straight through to jigging season Also, Blue Mesa Fishing will be awarding 3 free jigging trips to faithful watchers starting in July. Keep tuned to find out how you can get a seat on a jigging trip of a lifetime!!!
June 20th 2010
It’s Still On!
Fishing is off he charts right now with a report that I’m supposed to keep anonomous -25 kokes in 2 hours- evening session. Need I say more- get out here and let’s start fishing!!
June 19th 2010
It’s On!
The kokoes are hitting great now from Lake Fork to ELk Creek Marina. around 19 feet or 2 to three colors. Red arnies, corn, e-chips are all taking fish. Over 30 kokes seen at the fillet station and I went out with Turnip (Kokanee Karl) and we caught nothing but 4 year olds in the Bermuda Triangle at Lake Fork. Just good fishing from here on out so get the heck over here and get your kokes- before the lakers do!
June 18th 2010
Still happening!!
Good fishing from Elk Creek to Wind surfing area. All species were in there and persistence paid off. We did well with many kokes landed and too many dropped and missed. The Deal boys kept working though and landed some kokes and mixed bag as well. Many anglers did well today too and the fillet station was very busy! It’s starting to get good so get on up here and fish!
June 17th 2010
OK Video
June 17th 2010
Mixed Bag!
Another really good day- 3 hours of great action East of the Elk Creek- Had a grand slam with the Deal father and son duo today and dinner is served. Bows, browns, kokes and lakers. The koke bite was slower with more 3 to 1 year olds. The wind is blowing and has been, and has made the big salmon stop commiting suicide- oh well. 20+ fish boated and more released- what a day. The wind is currently kicking our butt and may slow the big slamon bite- but the other species are rocking!! Video will be up tonight.
June 16th 2010
Baits down, kokes UP!
It’s really good right now. Saw over 30 kokes at the filet station today- a few were ours!!
June 12th 2010
LOGO!
Well folks, our new logo is almost finished. This is a near final draft with some work to do. Soon it will head off to the presses and will be available on T-shirts and hats. A portion of all proceeds will go to help lakers and kokanee get along- I’m not sure how we’ll do it but we have a team of clowns working on it right now! – Update tomorrow!
June 12th 2010
Gettin it On!
Kokes are hitting well cebolla to stevens. Dodge the mud, find some fish- 0- 15fow- keep changing the lures, everything will work once during inconsistent patterns!!!!! He who adapts quickest, catches the fishes!
June 11th 2010
Kinda Fishy!
Kokes are heating up and Captain Dave and Turnip as well other associated clowns are getting near limits in Cebolla. The usual suspects are catching so don’t reinvent the wheel- just get out there early and catch. I’m just getting back from the beach and stripers to 30lbs were hot. I’ll post pics soon and we now have internet in the middle of nowhere, so the full report with pics will be up soon.- get to catching!!!!!!!!!!!
June 9th 2010
Up and Down Town!
Well, the excitement has been hot and cold. Captain Dave has been picking away and some anglers are doing better that others, but with OK consistency. The windows are short and it’s always happening somewhere, but remember, the lake is rising fast and the muddy water is coming in at all tributaries. It can happen for you but you have to fish- try the classic spots with red, green and glown Arnies- then improv from there. We got into big stripes today on the ocean and will have pics up soon. Also, we have internet at Lake Fork now- (3 weeks to get it running) so pics will back as well as the live cam and a daily weather update- stay posted!!!!!!!!!!
June 6th 2010
Mixed Up
Reports are up and down. Turnip, the bomb squad and Captain Dave were out today and did OK. Up and down with some great fish caught and some periods of slowness. There’s alot of wind and good amount of silt coming in- whatever, we’ll keep you up to date!!
June 4th 2010
Nailed ’em
Captain Dave nailed ’em today east of elk creek. This guy is dialing the kokes in and the water temps are cooperating. It’s on- book a trip with Dave if you Love catching kokes! YEAH!!
June 4th 2010
Yes, Kokanee!
Captain Dave is finding them. The spot is no secret, but he won’t let me print it until he gets a few more- let’s get fishing(not at Lake Fork though- Turnip will report LF later)
June 3rd 2010
Get to Work!
Well folks there is a new weekend upon us and Blue Mesa Fishing’s crew will be working hard and I will deliver the up-to-date reports. Captain Dave found a few kokes at Steven’s Creek yesterday, but there periods of slow fishing and wind. There will be a big force out today and tomorrow in Lake Fork so catch up with us to see if was good. As I said earlier, the Captain is taking a vacation to chase huge stripers off the coast of NJ and NY. We will be ocean kyaking and hopefully hooking up with fish up to 40lb- business as usual. Click on this link to Check out these pics from last year. Big Stripers. If you’re interested in something like this- send an email- I’ll head ya in the right direction. Lastly….. we have internet up at Lkae Fork FINALLY. So the pics will follow shortly with the FULL report!
June 2nd 2010
Brown Town
Fishing is still hot and cold with a few anglers rocking it and others trying and coming up short. Captain Dave was out yesterday with a trip and rocked the browns. Trolling was slow, a few lakers caught by bait- but browns were hot late morning on rocky banks. It’ll be hot or miss but you could be the one to hit!!
June 1st 2010
Highs and Lows
Well fishing is mixed around the lake with nothing too hot here or there. There has been hot and cold koke reports from Steven’s creek, slow kokes at Lake Fork, and medium level kokes at Cebolla mouth- but again nothing too notable. Some big lakers have been caught trolling koke imitaions and dunking. The brown trout are moving deeper and many can be found mixed in with small lakers at 40 to 60 over 150fow in most parts of the lake. As for the reports, I am really having a hard time with the satellite internet out at Lake Fork, but a few hundred dollars and a week of work should have it running this week for up to the minute reports. But, expect this: we have heavy run off now. The lake is filling fast with muddy water and clarity is an issue. This will effect consistent fishing for a week or two with trolling becoming slowly more productive, but in small windows. I drove to Creste Butte yesterday and the snow pack is huge, and run off is high and heavy- it’s gonna take awhile. So don’t expect too much red hot action. If you’re interested in a half day trolling trip or casting for browns at a light-core level book a trip. As for me, the captain is going to take a vacation for about a week and get the thoughts of laughing lakers out of my head and let the lake settle a bit and clean up- maybe!!! Captain Dave is fishing gull time and taking all charters in my absence. Also, Turnip, the bomb squad, my guide-friends ans associated clowns will be fishing steady, and I will update with their info every other day. So keep it here- it’s only gonna get better and yes, we will be having kokes for dinner all week!
March 2009

Long Day, Good Catching!
I had the Wynn men out today and the fish were scattered, but interested. We worked most of the east end of the lake and scratched up 22 fish for our efforts= 18 salmon and 4 lakers. A good day with the usual 30 bait change out but the bites were consistent all day- Things are officially changing so be ready!
July 30th 2010
Found ’em
Good day with associated clowns. We found the slimy suckers and took what they gave- counted 28 4’s among the posse. Turnip Captain Dave and I fish ’em today and you know what happened- too many cooks in the kitchen. But if you give all the cooks a few drinks, they really seem to get along- keep chasing, don’t sit in one spot too long!
July 29th 2010
Where did they go?
Had the Brock crew out today and couldn’t find the kokes. We fished Cebolla hard and the fish have left the building. We picked 8 and lost a few and worked hard with no biomass to support the effort. The move is on and hit and run is the name of the game- start working hard unless you know a sweet spot- and keep working intil the conditions change!! But……….. if you think it was a bad day for Blue Mesa Fishing, check out waht happened to this poor guy when launching the boat when bad. We were there to help him and we saw him fishing today! Sorry bud- don’t feel bad, I have done this once too!!!!!!!!!
July 28th 2010
Priceless
We had the Price crew out today and it was a priceless day. Overcast all day with light wind brought the bite on with big fours. We nailed 20 lost a few and a one jumped out of the cooler into the drink! Anyway, oranges and pinks and location has changed. Head WEST out of Elk Creek and the fleet will lead you to Kokanee!
July 27th 2010
Workin!
We had the Heinke crew out today and the kokes made us work. Blame it on the full moon or anything but we picked throughout the day and were snubbed by massive schools around the lake. We ended up with ten in, a few out but had a great day chasing silvery slabs. Some great reports came from around the lake as well as OK ones- right place, right time- you’ll catch every time! Thanks guys, a great crew and fishermen!
July 26th 2010
Alive and Well
Took the Ms’ and the bomb squad out on a mission and succeeded. Big fours at 40-50 fow in the narrows on pastel colors- GO DEEP. The fish were picky but slow and steady pulled it together. We’ll report after the charter tomorrow!!
July 25th 2010
Search and Rescue
Smoke on the water and BMF went to follow 4’s east and didn’t get far enough. We had all the 2’s we could catch and left ’em to make to next years’ boards. Some were caught at the irons and we looked to dry creek for some and found straglers. One guide had a decent morning with medium sized fish and a few 4’s- it’s getting tough, but rewarding!
July 24th 2010
One lure per fish!
Captain Dave and I went out on a mission to keep the pattern alive and did OK. 16 landed only a few 4’s and changing baits until the wind came. Check mate kokes- keepin it interesting!
July 23rd 2010
Putting it together!
Working hard today as the sun came out and changed the bite completely. Guides day off today with the zoo crew on the ss stink ship and we worked hard but nailed 16- lost a few. Less 4’s than 2’s and 3’s but associated clowns reported 16 4’s today in deeper water- good work clowns! – and clown squid was hitting good- any relation… I don’t know. Thank you to Art and George who took me out and let me reel in a few- it was a special day guys- thank you! We’re going to hit it hard for the next week as the second season is soon to start. Talk soon
July 22nd 2010
Good Day!
We had solo man Todd out today for a morning crack shot and caught kokes. There still here and everything I said earlier… disregard!! The fish haven’t changed and haven’t left. I just have no clue what’s going on- but fishing everyday is helping me help you figure it out. It’s still happening with big and little fish being caught and limits being hit. The fillet station is busy and so are we so drop ‘em to 34fow, green and oranges and catch your fish
July 21st 2010
OK Day!
Another stellar day with the Toltan Crew. The fish were short biting all day but did bite about every 5 minutes. We managed 16 to the boat and stop counting the drops in the first hour. The fours were hard to find but associated clowns hit ‘em hard at different locations- counts were up to 46 4’s between two boats- wow. It’s still on- stop reading this and come fishing!
July 19-20th 2010
Non Fishing Day!
Non-fishing related activities today. Captain Dave and I went out yesterday and nailed 12 lost a few- same report for guide’s day off with Sport Fish Colorado +2. It’s slowing currently, but 4yr olds are the common size. Pics will be up soon. Hang in there we’ll be fishing soon. They are still here!
July 18th 2010
Change up!
A good day off with the Ms. after a couple of crazy trips! A change up in location (east) and color (whites) for the kokes as they begin to move… somewhere. Hit 10, lost a few and called it. The fish are still but the big change is coming. I will give a full update tonight!
July 17th 2010
Great Bite
We had the Ratliff family out today for a killer day of fishing and hot weather. The bite was steady all day with usual 30 lure change up. We had ’em deep and shallow pending on the location in Lake Fork and it was a blast. Around 30 landed and 15 missed! Times they are a changing so if you love trolling get here soon!
July 16th 2010
Back At It
It’s still on here at LF. Guides took a day off to scout some new territory and found fish on the other end of lake. We nailed a handful of four year olds and looked for new fish to kick off the next season- we saw a few…. stay tuned- will be fishing tomorrow!
July 15th 2010
Workin Hard
Salmon gave it up after a brutal battle of presentation and the Daniels men hung through it all to put slabs over the rails. We worked through hot and cold sessions throwing everything in the box and nailed 20 fish and lost 10. a great day with a great crew and check mate to the kokanee!!!
July 14th 2010
Hog Tied!!!
Jeff and Mark broke the charts today with all around awards. First of all, they landed the most salmon of any trip-32 salmon!+ 2 trout. They also caught the smallest salmon I’ve ever seen. AND, they lost the most fish I’ve ever seen- 19- these are fish hooked and lost, not strikes! Hell of a day- big four year olds pushed 50% of the catch. The pattern stands at watermellon colors at 28-20fow, 3 to 5 colors- Lake Fork basin, deep water. Wow, I’m tired and out of corn!- It’s on, It’s on, It’s on….. come and git it on!
July 13th 2010
Slamin’ Salmon Hammer!!
I dont’ even know what that means but I had the Mcguire men out today and it was banner- highs and lows and meat to show for it. 29 salmon landed, 20 kept, 6 trout and 7 lost at the boat- pray to the fish gods people- and get to fishing!!
July 11th 2010
Smashed ’em
Another banner day today on the boat with the Leibel crew coming out from Glenwood Springs to nail monster 4 years olds. As Turnip would say ‘big fat four year olds’ were biting hard today and giving us a break on the change up. They stayed consistent on 4 baits all day and it was a blast.(uncle Joes). We boated 29 salmon,-19 four year olds- many trout, tons missed and many released. What a day! Does it get any better? I hope it just stays great! Come n get ’em folks- soon the salmon will disappear to the depths and our second season will begin!
July 10th 2010
Numbers
Today was a numbers day, and I went out on a solo mission to keep the pattern alive for this weeks’ trips. I landed 23 kokes + many lost and mixed trout- only two salmon kept for dinner- all others released for you! Turnip and associated clowns also had a hot day today with big numbers and weight- and fish moving deeper and becoming more aggresive- squids and uncle joes brought it today with the variations doing well in the slow times. I joined Turnip this afternoon and through a slow picked we nailed 20.25″ koke weighing 3.0 lbs! I hope it stays great! There are currently complaints mounting about terrible fishing and it’s leading to alternate measures that we are not sure of yet- but- to catch more fish, fish 10 hour sessions with a minimum of 20 bait selections- this is a start to catch more- the days of sitting back and hammering are over- we are now working full time!!!!
July 8th 2010
Slabby
Captain Dave and I had another day off and decided to go………… fishing! Early am bite brought it with only slab 4 year olds. The bite continues and the am is good way to start the day- get on the water in the dark- then fumble into the daylight with a pattern. It’s still hot so if you book a trip- be prepared to start early! Keep on fishing!!
July 7th 2010
Dogs Day
Hello folks- here to give an overview of the season and some reports. Kokes continue to hit the boards today while I joined a guides day off with Robby Richardson of Sport Fish Colorado and Justin somethingorother- the first call guide for the marinas. We had ’em during the morning blitz from 14 to 18fow on the usual suspects with trends moving in the green direction. Fish are beginning to school slightly deeper but the more active feeding fish are in the upper columns. Corn continues to be a must and don’t be afraid to try some scent with it. Be sure to have an arsenal ready because the fish are here- if you’re not catching, change it up, and down, and color and speed. Don’t drag the same ole thing too long! – the fish will abide. Anyway, this site is being worked on daily, the logo and shirts are still being developed and – we’re on our way to jigging season. You can expect to see us starting to look for schools in a few weeks and if you’re interested in a trip- now’s the time to book- we’re filling up fast. Anyway- stay tuned- most pics are up at Bluemesafishing.com, my crappy internet will only let me upload so much video per month- lame- so check over there for pics! We’ll give an update tomorrow!
July 6th 2010
Spank-ville
We had the Lyle crew with special guest Parry Parino out we clocked ’em. The am blitz put slabs in the boat and we continued to pick and hammer throughout the day- 22 kept, many lost or broken off and a couple who were released to swim another day! Good trip men!
July 5th 2010
Working Hard!
Had the Lebonde party out for a trip and it was hot and cold. Many fish lost, about 8 landed and tons of bite. The blow put ’em down but we managed to put a catch together and sent the crew home with slabs- good work!
July 5th 2010
Change Up!!!
Still banging away with the change up! We will update tomorrow- still recovering from trips and the 4th- the fish have changed but are still here!!!!!
July 4th 2010
Happy 4th
Happy fourth folks- another great day- Captain Dave was out with Nick today and had a limit of kokes today. We were out today on a day off and nailed 25 kokes! The am bite was nutz and then a good pick for the rest of the day. It’s good, but the wind is back!!
July 3rd 2010
Night Bite
Had the Hogan party for an evening session 3-8pm and it was great. The wind is back and the bite didn’t phase- 15 landed, many released and only 5 lost- big fours battled the crew and doubles were happening- great crew, great bite!- it’s still happening!
July 3rd 2010
Flohr-ed ‘Em
We had the Flohr family out today and kicked butt! 25 landed, 5 lost and all fish released that weren’t hogs. We rocked ’em, worked ’em and were rewarded for the efforts.- what a team and they only left a few kokes laughing- what a pleaseure- great grew.!
July 2nd 2010
Morrow Point
Turnip and I went on a Morrow Point Charter with Robby and Ryan today on a personal invite from Ed of Western Pump and Dredge and it was awesome. 2 boats 10 guys and we had fish all day! Big 4 year olds and mixed bag trout. These two guys do the hard time and are a valued asset of the park service for these trips.- Blue mesa report- still hot- guys had ’em all day and quit with the rain- it is good!
July 1st 2010
Koka-Fied!
Kick ass trip today. 23 landed 20kokes/3trout, 8 dropped- 6 four year olds.- Robert and Betty put it to ’em and the koke responded- will have pics later, must sleep. (4 colors)
August 31st Steady
We had the pleasure of having Art and Mary, and caught some fish! 25 kept over 12 released and too many lost! The session was hot and we left them biting to do non-fishing related activities! Sick trip- Mary was the alpha catcher today but we all rocked ’em
August 30th Steady
Went out with the bomb squad and captain Dave and we rocked a short window and called it! 20 in the boat, a few released and relaxing by noon. Fish are biting!
August 29th Steady
We had the Turecek crew out today and nailed 24. It was fast and furious but productive- we’re happy and the fish are too! PIC ARE COMING FOR ALL REPORTS IN A FEW DAYS
August 28th Slow Down!!
Went out with Sportfishcolorado (RR) today and pulled 24- released all the females and had a good day. The moon phase is not great and the weather is changing- so are the fish, what a surprise. It was still fun as heck to catch and fish with one of the great guides on Blue. Another pic with Milyard sharpie Missy. she was fishing with parents Hugh and Dianne and rockin kokes! Does it ever get old………… NO!
August 27th Ratliff-ication!!
50 fish day on Friday -Here’s the skinny. The bite was off the charts sticking to the usual time frames of the week. The Ratliff’s wanted to crush the charts and I was onboard so we went for it. We fished as hard as always but the kokes just gave it up better than any other day and we truly thank them for it. We went through 3 containers of baits and just pushed through the bite and damn was it good. We had 5 people, 50 fish on the nose. Sportfishcolorado.com (Robbie Richardson) 39 fish- 2 people, Captain Dave- limit, 1 person and threw ’em back for the rest of the day- associated clowns- 12 to 26 per boat. Wow………I’m off today and NOT fishing!!- but the zoo crew is working, so we’ll update ya later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (pics coming)
August 26th Death Town!!
29 yesterday- 4 people, 28 today- 3 people- Hot fishing continues with a mad dog bite with the kokes and the Nuss crew walked right into it. We had limits filled a few times but couldn’t get the fish into the box- oh well, sounds like koke fishing!
August 25th Yankville!!
Kicking ass today with kokes flying over the rails and the Johnson crew nailing ‘most’ of them. Kokes are coming together with consistency and that’s all there is to say- here today, could be gone tomorrow- who knows how many fish eyes it could take to keep ’em biting!!
August 24th Starting Up!!
Limits being pulled around the lake today with the help of stupid kokanee biting lures! Captain Dave has been on a hot streak with clients saying ‘enough’ and associated clowns are doing well too! If you’re interested in a trip, it appears this is a peak of the season. We are well booked through the 15th of September but do have some holes for interested parties. Thanks and have a good one!- pics are coming!
August 23rd Hot!!
Day off with the Ms’ and associated clowns are off to great start- somewhere in the area of 14 fish for one boat reported- sounds like it’s on!!!
August 22nd Pickin
Pickin’ for no other explanation than pickin. Ron and George moved into the school and had high hook with a bunch of fish- kick butt guys! The bite was short and sweet and Dave and I went for fun and yes, we lost more than we landed- rookies! C-ya out there!
August 21st Ham Slammy!!
We had the Hassel crew out today and the action was hot. 16 in the boat and too many out- but good windows with great biomass- it’s time to get kokes folks, sooooooo……… come and get ’em!
August 20th Slamma Jamma!!
If you like hooking fish and losing fish and landing fish all the time while fishing well it’s happening. Today was a great day with the Karlin crew battling kokes to the end. We had 12 over the rails and more than that lost and dropped on the way to the boat- hey you can’t be a hero everyday! But it’s on!
August 19th Rockin and Rollin!!
We had the Gendron pary out and put it to ’em. The fish cooperated all day and we had 20 over the rails and more than 20 dropped. It’s on and this guide can’t be happier. Let’s hope for a repeat tomorrow and if you’re out fishing soon, you might want to think about eating a kokanee eye………..
August 18th Hot Bite!
It was short and sweet but the kokes gave it up for about an hour and 1/2 and associated clowns and sharpies fired away. Dave and I pulled a limit and plenty of fish were put in other coolers- good work crews, persistence pays off- let’s keep it coming!
August 16-17th OK….
Fishing has been hot and cold with some anglers doing great and others doing OK. Charters have been ok with some great days for salmon and others just frustrating. Trolling in the narrows and Iola for salmon have been meaker and the irons have been HOT AND COLD with pink at 85 being the only thing we can hang onto. The weather has the salmon moving fast and furious with short windows of gathering, then breaking up and running like hell!.. Some lakers have been caught below the schools and some think this is part of the propblem- the only truth is that the fish will never tell! Well, remember, some anglers are doing very well and this should be enough motivation to come out and give it a shot- the days of feast are currently on hold for BMF with great days deserving praise to the fish gods- but they don’t always listen. Bottom line, fish are still in the classic haunts and are showing, but getting them to bite is your mission- until we hit something consitent, throw the kitchen sink! We will too!
August 13-15th Heating Up!
Kokanee cooperation is getting better and fish are being caught with numbers getting better each day. Trolling is OK at 85fow with pinks doing best slow. The weather has done a 360 which we hope is helping the bite. There are still better days followed by OK ones but consistency is happening- so, once more- get out here- it is getting hot!- pics will be up tomorrow!
August 12th Picking Up
It’s picking up. Slowly, some trolling and other stuff is producing but the weather is also making things tough now. It’s not terrible though and we’re back in the game. It can only get better so wish us luck tomorrow and we’ll report soon!!
August 5th-9th Send a Wah-ambulance!
Tired of eating kokanee eyes… Well, a week ago we’re slamming fish and then a fast decline afterwards. Our sessions have been dry or biteless and unable to land fish and clients as well as myself have been left wanting more- trolling has picked up in the cebolla basin while we’ve getting served in Iola. Some good days reported with mixed bag of OK days. Not sure what’s going on other than a slowdown after an amazing season- but the excitement level is pretty low. So, we’re taking a few days off and if you find the fish- send us an email!!!-lol, or tell the fleet- thanks and see ya soon!
August 3rd-4th Disappearing Act
ate a kokanee eye as an offering to the gods and they have been unmerciful. Slow to no pick- sometimes plenty of fish showing with no biters! Trolling around the lake has been a pic with a few good fish caught and many dinks and lakers coming over the rails- how about a weather break?
August 2nd 2010 – OK….
Had the Epsy Crew out today and the fish God’s laughed. We worked over good fish today and only had a few to show for it. Young Chase landed these two hogs and broke his biggest salmon record- fish god’s have mercy upon well presented baits tomorrow!!!!!!!!!- Great crew, great trip!- thanks guys!
August 1st 2010 – BMF Kicking Butt!
I had three of my favorite clients out today and found salmon, and nailed ’em. The 5:30 wake up call was brutal as fish didn’t bite until 9am- but that’s fishing. We nailed 20 4’s today – too many missed and dropped- and there were plenty of fish to go around- the second season has begun so if you like big fish in big numbers- try a trip!! The Wynn crew took a second trip today with Captain Dave of BMF and banged em up as well- 10 big boys and 3’s and 2’s to boot. A great day for Blue Mesa Fishing guides- and we thank the fish gods!

September 23rd Troll ’em Up!
Hey guys- I’m back from sleeping in for 2 weeks and an awesome powell trip. The great news is trolling has been really good on Blue at all ends and Captain Dave has been doing trips and associated clowns are catching- the game is smaller salmon and lots of trout- not bad, no crowds and good cold fish- Dave is still running so if you want a shot- give a call! Talk soon.
September 11th It’s Over!
Welcome back folks! It’s been a few months of fishing for fun around the East Coast and Lake Powell and the Colorado River! We’re back though and gearing up for ice fishing on the Western Slope. Bluemesaicefishing.com is almost finished and will follow the hard water season to ice out. We will be focusing on Rifle and Harvey Gap for jalopy perch and mix it in with Lakers at Blue Mesa Reservoir and MAYBE Granby! Alot of changes coming up and picks from the last three months coming- stick with us!
Howdy folks and welcome to the end of Bluemesafishing’s season at Blue Mesa. Captain Dave will be staying to do trolling trips for smaller salmon and all trout species- so if you want a taste of the mixed bag-call us. The kokes left us about two weeks earlier than last year and this weekends clients are still crying about it- me too! Anyway, the good news is that it was a hell of a kokanee season with records being broken weekly! I’m not complaining about anything other than the frost this morning and packin it in early- but, thanks to all the clients that made it happen for us this year and we hope your fishing experience was awesome. Also thank you to the loyal folks that check the site- benefits are coming for you! The mighty Blue demands respect and if you got served this year- join the club and keep at it! So it’s quiet time for us for awhile until the ice comes- then we will begin trophy perch season at Rifle Gap. You can learn how to ice fish as well as catch jalopy 14″ perch and learn the tricks and licks it takes to get ’em. Stay tuned for updates and changes to the website. See ya soon!
September 10th Tiny but Mighty!
Did the last trip of the season today with the Bob and Karen Fischer and had a blast. We pulled out the downriggers due to popular demand and the kokes responded. Lake fork gave it up with 2yrs mainly and a few large fish mixed in- slammin arnies and assasins and made for a great last day. Kept 15 released 5 and lost 12- whatever. It was a nice end and the future looks great for kokes- they are stacked at Lake Fork. Great work from my last crew and they really made a memorable trip and didn’t lose TOO many fish at the boat………… Koke fishing at it’s finest- pics coming this weekend.
September 9th 3:1- yeah!
3 hours of fishing and 1 one fish caught, then another 3 hours and 1 caught. Pretty slow and not enough to book a trip! Wah wah Wah Wah Wah. Call me when the ice is off!!!- We’ll be trippin’ tomorrow (downriggers are back on the boat)
September 7th-8th More of the Same!
Still no fish- there are alot in the river though.
September 6th Blow Out!
The wind blows and blows and is still blowing- I know because I’m sitting in bed watching it white cap the lake. Prolly won’t fish- stand by.
September 5th Busted!
The bottom fell out today as the fish gods laughed and the west winds salted the wounds. Eager holiday ramblers, including the entire fishing community got served on the salmon grounds with high hook being 1- for us we didn’t even drop a line. 20-25 knot winds finished off the day and we headed for the marina at 12pm. The bomb squad did put together another famous crawfish boil and that made the day. What will happen next……………. stay tuned.
September 4th Pickin!
Biomass reduction makes the tears fall on the ss stink ship- but it was a day off of the Ms, Captain Dave and Clown Town. Associated clowns found a few fish and we nailed 4 and called it- not alot of fish around but that could change in a day!
September 3rd Not Bad!!
The Maloney crew came out today and we caught. The biomass thinned out abit but a few great sessions came together and we put 17 in the box and fed a whole bunch. Great fishing great crew- thanks guys, it was a pleasure.
September 2nd Slay Day!
We had the Trottier party out today and slayed. It was non-stop from 8:30 to 11:30 and we left ’em biting!!!!!!! 52 landed which 20 were released. It’s really good now!! *****************CHECK OUT THE ARCHIVES FOR AUGUST IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN SEEING WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!******************
September 1st Bangin!
Went today with the Laird Party today and went home early- because we limited out. 33 landed, 4 released. It was just red hot. SFC did 61 and Captain Dave and clown town did 13. Another great day on a great lake in Colorado…… the end is near!

CLICK HERE TO START ICE FISHING!!!! YEAH!!
November 25th
Hey guys, Casey here from Blue Mesa fishing. Ice has started on Antero- though not safely and other lakes will soon follow. We have just launched Bluemesaicefishing.com which will be a new source for ice fishing tips, tricks and updates on the ice in Colorado. We will be targeting Rifle and Harvey Gap this year with a continual focus on Blue Mesa Reservoir. Anyway, we will head out next week for our fisrt outing on a semi-secluded lake on the western slope that always gives up hog rainbows and mixed bag of brooks, browns and the occasional koke. Keep up with us and we’ll keep you up to date on when and where to catch on the Western Slope! Thanks, Cap
December 2010
Ice Time!
Ice fishing is on and the tournaments will start soon. Rifle, Wolford, three lakes, gren mountain and 11 mile. Make sure you get your baits ahead of time and store them correctly! IT’s a great time to fish your favorite spots and work open water sports on the ice!!
Captains’ Log Hey Folks, this is Captain Casey, owner and head guide of Blue Mesa Fishing. We love fishing Blue Mesa Reservoir and do it with a passion to catch more and bigger fish and give clients a memorable guided fishing experience on every trip. Here at Blue Mesa Fishing we do many kinds of guided fishing trips from Lake Trout fishing during ice out in the spring, to kokanee salmon trolling in the summer and jigging in the fall. After the kokanee salmon leave the lake, we focus on fly fishing the secluded waters of the Lake Fork arm of the Gunnison River and Cebolla Creek. We also offer guided ice fishing trips from Blue Mesa Reservoir to Rifle Gap State Park in Western Colorado. Here at Blue Mesa Fishing, we try to catch throughout the entire year and offer a variety of ways to do it. If you’re interested in a trip, look through any of our packages, or just read through our site to learn how you can catch more and bigger fish in Colorado. Thanks again for checking us out and visit our three new sites found at the bottom of each page! Fish On
