BMF AUGUST 2010 ARCHIVE
August 31st Steady
We had the pleasure of having Art and Mary, and caught some fish! 25 kept over 12 released and too many lost! The session was hot and we left them biting to do non-fishing related activities! Sick trip- Mary was the alpha catcher today but we all rocked 'em!
August 30th Steady
Went out with the bomb squad and captain Dave and we rocked a short window and called it! 20 in the boat, a few released and relaxing by noon. Fish are biting!
August 29th Steady
We had the Turecek crew out today and nailed 24. It was fast and furious but productive- we're happy and the fish are too! PIC ARE COMING FOR ALL REPORTS IN A FEW DAYS
August 28th Slow Down!!
Went out with Sportfishcolorado (RR) today and pulled 24- released all the females and had a good day. The moon phase is not great and the weather is changing- so are the fish, what a surprise. It was still fun as heck to catch and fish with one of the great guides on Blue. Another pic with Milyard sharpie Missy. she was fishing with parents Hugh and Dianne and rockin kokes! Does it ever get old............ NO!
August 27th Ratliff-ication!!
50 fish day on Friday -Here's the skinny. The bite was off the charts sticking to the usual time frames of the week. The Ratliff's wanted to crush the charts and I was onboard so we went for it. We fished as hard as always but the kokes just gave it up better than any other day and we truly thank them for it. We went through 3 containers of baits and just pushed through the bite and damn was it good. We had 5 people, 50 fish on the nose. Sportfishcolorado.com (Robbie Richardson) 39 fish- 2 people, Captain Dave- limit, 1 person and threw 'em back for the rest of the day- associated clowns- 12 to 26 per boat. Wow.........I'm off today and NOT fishing!!- but the zoo crew is working, so we'll update ya later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (pics coming)
August 26th Death Town!!
29 yesterday- 4 people, 28 today- 3 people- Hot fishing continues with a mad dog bite with the kokes and the Nuss crew walked right into it. We had limits filled a few times but couldn't get the fish into the box- oh well, sounds like koke fishing!
August 25th Yankville!!
Kicking ass today with kokes flying over the rails and the Johnson crew nailing 'most' of them. Kokes are coming together with consistency and that's all there is to say- here today, could be gone tomorrow- who knows how many fish eyes it could take to keep 'em biting!!
August 24th Starting Up!!
Limits being pulled around the lake today with the help of stupid kokanee biting lures! Captain Dave has been on a hot streak with clients saying 'enough' and associated clowns are doing well too! If you're interested in a trip, it appears this is a peak of the season. We are well booked through the 15th of September but do have some holes for interested parties. Thanks and have a good one!- pics are coming!
August 23rd Hot!!
Day off with the Ms' and associated clowns are off to great start- somewhere in the area of 14 fish for one boat reported- sounds like it's on!!!
August 22nd Pickin
Pickin' for no other explanation than pickin. Ron and George moved into the school and had high hook with a bunch of fish- kick butt guys! The bite was short and sweet and Dave and I went for fun and yes, we lost more than we landed- rookies! C-ya out there!
August 21st Ham Slammy!!
We had the Hassel crew out today and the action was hot. 16 in the boat and too many out- but good windows with great biomass- it's time to get kokes folks, sooooooo......... come and get 'em!
August 20th Slamma Jamma!!
If you like hooking fish and losing fish and landing fish all the time while fishing well it's happening. Today was a great day with the Karlin crew battling kokes to the end. We had 12 over the rails and more than that lost and dropped on the way to the boat- hey you can't be a hero everyday! But it's on!
August 19th Rockin and Rollin!!
We had the Gendron pary out and put it to 'em. The fish cooperated all day and we had 20 over the rails and more than 20 dropped. It's on and this guide can't be happier. Let's hope for a repeat tomorrow and if you're out fishing soon, you might want to think about eating a kokanee eye...........
August 18th Hot Bite!
It was short and sweet but the kokes gave it up for about an hour and 1/2 and associated clowns and sharpies fired away. Dave and I pulled a limit and plenty of fish were put in other coolers- good work crews, persistence pays off- let's keep it coming!
August 16-17th OK....
Fishing has been hot and cold with some anglers doing great and others doing OK. Charters have been ok with some great days for salmon and others just frustrating. Trolling in the narrows and Iola for salmon have been meaker and the irons have been HOT AND COLD with pink at 85 being the only thing we can hang onto. The weather has the salmon moving fast and furious with short windows of gathering, then breaking up and running like hell!.. Some lakers have been caught below the schools and some think this is part of the propblem- the only truth is that the fish will never tell! Well, remember, some anglers are doing very well and this should be enough motivation to come out and give it a shot- the days of feast are currently on hold for BMF with great days deserving praise to the fish gods- but they don't always listen. Bottom line, fish are still in the classic haunts and are showing, but getting them to bite is your mission- until we hit something consitent, throw the kitchen sink! We will too!
August 13-15th Heating Up!
Kokanee cooperation is getting better and fish are being caught with numbers getting better each day. Trolling is OK at 85fow with pinks doing best slow. The weather has done a 360 which we hope is helping the bite. There are still better days followed by OK ones but consistency is happening- so, once more- get out here- it is getting hot!- pics will be up tomorrow!
August 12th Picking Up
It's picking up. Slowly, some trolling and other stuff is producing but the weather is also making things tough now. It's not terrible though and we're back in the game. It can only get better so wish us luck tomorrow and we'll report soon!!
August 5th-9th Send a Wah-ambulance!
Tired of eating kokanee eyes... Well, a week ago we're slamming fish and then a fast decline afterwards. Our sessions have been dry or biteless and unable to land fish and clients as well as myself have been left wanting more- trolling has picked up in the cebolla basin while we've getting served in Iola. Some good days reported with mixed bag of OK days. Not sure what's going on other than a slowdown after an amazing season- but the excitement level is pretty low. So, we're taking a few days off and if you find the fish- send us an email!!!-lol, or tell the fleet- thanks and see ya soon!
August 3rd-4th Disappearing Act
ate a kokanee eye as an offering to the gods and they have been unmerciful. Slow to no pick- sometimes plenty of fish showing with no biters! Trolling around the lake has been a pic with a few good fish caught and many dinks and lakers coming over the rails- how about a weather break?
August 2nd 2010 - OK....
Had the Epsy Crew out today and the fish God's laughed. We worked over good fish today and only had a few to show for it. Young Chase landed these two hogs and broke his biggest salmon record- fish god's have mercy upon well presented baits tomorrow!!!!!!!!!- Great crew, great trip!- thanks guys!
August 1st 2010 - BMF Kicking Butt!
I had three of my favorite clients out today and found salmon, and nailed 'em. The 5:30 wake up call was brutal as fish didn't bite until 9am- but that's fishing. We nailed 20 4's today - too many missed and dropped- and there were plenty of fish to go around- the second season has begun so if you like big fish in big numbers- try a trip!! The Wynn crew took a second trip today with Captain Dave of BMF and banged em up as well- 10 big boys and 3's and 2's to boot. A great day for Blue Mesa Fishing guides- and we thank the fish gods!

Captains’ Log Hey Folks, this is Captain Casey, owner and head guide of Blue Mesa Fishing. We love fishing Blue Mesa Reservoir and do it with a passion to catch more and bigger fish and give clients a memorable guided fishing experience on every trip. Here at Blue Mesa Fishing we do many kinds of guided fishing trips from Lake Trout fishing during ice out in the spring, to kokanee salmon trolling in the summer and jigging in the fall. After the kokanee salmon leave the lake, we focus on fly fishing the secluded waters of the Lake Fork arm of the Gunnison River and Cebolla Creek. We also offer guided ice fishing trips from Blue Mesa Reservoir to Rifle Gap State Park in Western Colorado. Here at Blue Mesa Fishing, we try to catch throughout the entire year and offer a variety of ways to do it. If you’re interested in a trip, look through any of our packages, or just read through our site to learn how you can catch more and bigger fish in Colorado.
